Mission Man Pleads Guilty to Third-Degree Burglary and Aiding and Abetting

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Skye Lee Valdez, age 20, of Mission, South Dakota, appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on September 20, 2011, and pled guilty to third-degree burglary and aiding and abetting. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years? imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both.

On May 30, 2011, Valdez aided and abetted the burglary of a Subway restaurant by responding to communications from his co-defendant and going to the Subway restaurant and helping carry property away. Valdez and his co-defendant were involved in taking drinks, food, chips, and U.S. currency or coins from the Subway restaurant.

The investigation was conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for December 12, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
